I’ve been having a break from this after the Alpha release. I’ve been doing some Let’s Plays and concentrating on Distant Worlds, which is quite a different game from Skyrim. For anyone interested in strategy games and Let’s Plays, go check my channel out. I’m going to Let’s Play many games this year since it’s a really good year for strategy.
But I cannot leave Frontier alone. I’ve still been working at it a bit, and today, I added a new landmark in the town of Benton. This church was created by Stroti and ported to Skyrim by my buddy Tamira. I’ve been looking for this kind of church for a long time, and now I finally have one. The little island in central Benton was designed specifically to hold a church or a chapel, so Lord Benton’s mansion has had to move further out to sea.
Thanks to Tamira and Stroti for this excellent church! There are other resources in their resource pack too, which I am going to use to good effect later on.
Time for patching. No serious problems have been reported with the Alpha. In fact, people seem to be enjoying the grand tour of the Frontier. This patch makes your journey in the Frontier even more enjoyable. A helmet was missing a texture and some of the military tents were gone.
DOWNLOAD THE PATCH
March 11, Update Patch 01
– Updated the textures for the military tents.
– Updated the textures for the Steel Sallet helmet.
– Did some minor interior work in Lone Wolf Castle.
Keep reporting any problems so I can patch them as soon as possible!
This is an Alpha release of Frontier for Skyrim. There is unfinished business all over the mod. LOD is of questionable quality in places. The landscape is largely done; interiors are in place, of which most are decorated too. There are large areas of unfinished land at the outer areas of The Frontier. There are NO NPC’s, NO QUESTS. Some resources have been added already; like new buildings, some new armour, some new weapons, books and so on. There is a lot more to come!
Install manually. If you don’t know how to do that, don’t download the Alpha, but wait for the finished version. Cleaned with Tes5Edit.
The Alphas and Betas of Frontier are only uploaded to ModDB. The final version will also be featured at the Nexus. Do NOT upload this WIP to any other site. Thank you.
To get into the Frontier, open the console and write “cow Frontier -19,-17”
Frontier will make use of Backstept’s Regent Armoury for swords. Used here with kind permission by Backstept, these Medieval swords will be used by the guards, soldiers, knights and upper classes in the civilized areas. Beautiful, aren’t they?
99% of Frontier is absolutely smashingly beautiful, but there are parts of it still under construction that the player just will have to suffer when the Alpha arrives. I’m now unashamedly going to show off a few potential problem areas of ugliness.
The untextured mega-mountains are a problem. In the north, you won’t see them due to the weather, but in the south they’re quite visible. There’s nothing I can do about them at the present. In the future, they will at least be properly textured and have hiding clouds about them, but it takes precision work. These mountains are on the border of the map. This means, every time I insert something or edit something in the area, the CK adds cells, expanding my worldspace and effectively making the LOD go out of order altogether.
The Anvil Nova Flying Church Tower has been with me since my previous Object LOD update. I don’t know what happened, but I’ve removed the church tower LOD altogether and hope that it resolves itself by the next Object LOD update which will be done prior to Alpha Release. Chances are you’ll never get to see the flying tower. It’s just LOD; as you go nearer, things move into proper place though.
“Anybody home!?” There are still empty interiors in the Frontier. All interiors are enterable, but some of them are barren like this one. Most are done though, ready to be explored. This picture is from a private house in Anvil Nova. All the shops in the capital are done and look cool.
You will also encounter completely unmodded areas in the alpha release. You’ll know when you see them. They are like brown, untextured masses of land. These unmodded areas are meant to be just that at this stage, because I either need resources for them still (like one of the places in the very east where I want to add Dragonborn resources) or they are meant to hold locations for the main quest and just weren’t prioritized at this stage.
Although these stains on Frontier’s beauty, I really believe that the Alpha Player will be struck by the overall beauty of the continent I’ve created! I know I am – every time I enter.
More trees. These ones are firmly in the ground though.
This is the best glitch I’ve had in a long time. I was pasting a new type of tree into the mod today, and when I went in-game to test them out and see how they worked, this happened. One of them obviously had Havok behaviour and lacked collision. I could move it around and push it, and throw lightning bolts at it to fly. Maybe I should leave it at this, because I had a lot of fun with it.
